“We believe that countries must work together towards a new international agreement for pandemic preparedness and response. We believe it is our responsibility, as leaders of countries and international institutions, to ensure that the world learns from the COVID-19 pandemic, "the leaders wrote.
The main objective of such an agreement is to strengthen the world's resilience to future pandemics through better alert systems, data sharing, research and production and distribution of vaccines, drugs, diagnostics and personal protective equipment, they said.
The agreement will also state that human, animal and planetary health are all connected and must lead to shared responsibility, transparency and global cooperation.
