Partial Lunar Eclipse In September That Will Happen
YOGYAKARTA - The phenomenon of partial or partial lunar eclipse is predicted to occur on Tuesday (17/9/2024). When this phenomenon occurs, you can only see half the Moon that looks bright from Earth, while the rest will look dark.
Citing SciTech Daily, there is a difference in the partial lunar eclipse on September 17 which will come from other full moons. Because, at that time also coincided with the supermoon phenomenon, namely when the full moon appeared bigger and brighter than usual. So, is the partial lunar eclipse in September 2024 observable in Indonesia?
Professor of Astronomy and Astrophysics Research, National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Thomas Djamaluddin explained, the phenomenon of partial lunar eclipses that occurred on September 17 cannot be observed by Indonesia. This partial lunar eclipse can only be witnessed in several countries.
"(Only) observed in the Middle East, Africa, Europe, the Pacific, and America," explained Djamaluddin, Wednesday (11/9/2024).
As we all know, partial lunar eclipses occur when the Sun, Earth, and the Moon are not in one straight line. The Earth will cover part of the sun's rays leading to the moon. Therefore, only a fraction of the Moon's surface emits light from the reflection of the Sun's rays towards Earth. However, the phenomenon of a supermoon or full moon that looks bigger and brighter, can still be seen in Indonesia. This Supermoon occurs when the moon is at its closest distance to Earth. It is influenced by the Moon's trajectory that circles the Earth which is not a perfect circular shape.
According to him, this supermoon has an impact on increasing sea water levels.
"When the full moon with an eclipse or without an eclipse is the maximum increase in tides of sea water," he explained.
Thomas revealed that throughout this year there were two lunar eclipses. Another eclipse has taken place on March 25, 2024.
At that time, the penumbral lunar eclipse could be seen in Indonesia. However, this phenomenon occurs during the day, so it cannot be seen. In addition, there are also two sun eclipse phenomena throughout this year, namely on April 8 and October 2, 2024. However, it cannot be seen in Indonesia.
Quoted from Space, the partial lunar eclipse that occurred on 17-18 September 2024, will start at 20.41 Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) (0141wakil Mean Time/GMT on 18 September). Furthermore, the peak of the eclipse will occur at 10.44 pm EDT (0341 GMT on 18 September).
This partial lunar eclipse will end at 12:47 a.m. EDT on September 18 (0547 GMT). So that the total duration of the partial lunar eclipse is 4 hours and 6 minutes.
Unfortunately, even though Asia is included in an area that is crossed by a partial lunar eclipse, Indonesia is not included in the area being crossed.
