Seoul Summit Discusses Blueprint Using Responsible AI In Military Field

JAKARTA - South Korea held a Summit on Monday, September 9 to establish a blueprint on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) responsible for the military realm.

This meeting is the second meeting after it was previously held in Amsterdam last year. At this second meeting, there were more than 90 countries including the United States and China have sent representatives to Seoul.

In his speech, South Korean Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun said that the meeting referred to Ukraine's efforts against Russia by launching an unmanned aircraft.

With the help of AI technology, this is expected to overcome signal interference and allow unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to work in larger groups.

"Recently, in the Russia-Ukraine war, the AI-enabled Ukrainian drone served as David's catapult," South Korean Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun said in a speech.

In addition, South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul said the discussions would cover areas such as legal reviews to ensure compliance with international law and mechanisms to prevent autonomous weapons from making life and death decisions without human supervision.

The Seoul summit is expected to set restrictions on the use of AI in the military and suggest principles on the use of responsible AI by reflecting the principles set by NATO.
