Flood-affected Residents In Ternate Get Bacterial Contaminated Water

TERNATE - PDAM distributes clean water for residents affected by flash floods in Rua Village, Ternate, North Maluku. However, a meeting from the local Health Office revealed that the water distributed in the evacuation site had been contaminated with bacteria.

"It is true that there were bacteria that were found by our team during an inspection of the quality of water distributed from PDAM for refugees who now live in refugee posts at SMK Negeri 4 Ternate City," said Head of the Ternate City Health Office, Fathiyah Summa in Ternate, Sunday, as reported by ANTARA.

The Ternate City Health Office team conducted an examination some time ago when hundreds of residents entered the evacuation post prepared by the Ternate City Government at SMK Negeri 4 Ternate City which is in Kastela Village.

He said, after being found, the Health Office team went through the Kesling Sector with the PDAM team to drain and clarify.

"Everything has been handled periodically after bacterial contamination was found, so everything is safe," said Fathiyah.

He explained that with the discovery of bacterial contamination, every need such as food and drinks as well as other necessities distributed to residents at the evacuation posts was still closely monitored by the health team who were alerted at the location.

The flash flood that hit Rua Village, Ternate Island District in Sunday (25/8) early this morning, killed 19 people, 18 of whom have been found, while one victim is still being searched for due to being buried in mud and rocks at the location.

Meanwhile, the flash flood that occurred Sunday at around dawn yesterday also damaged 25 houses and one prayer room building.

The residents who were evacuated by the Ternate City Government, based on data on Saturday, August 31 yesterday, amounted to 250 people from 73 families.*
