Godzilla Vs. Kong Becomes The Best Paid Film During The COVID-19 Pandemic

JAKARTA - Godzilla vs. Kong became the best pandemic film at the overseas box office with a total of $ 121.8 million at the time of opening, giving Hollywood films hope that their flagship film can return to glory when theaters open.

The film won't be released in North America until March 31.

In China, the Adam Wingard-directed film controls 82 percent of the market share and scored the biggest opening for a foreign film since 2019. It also opens the equivalent of the last installment, Godzilla vs. King of the Monsters at $ 70.6 million.

Godzilla vs. Kong also had the best opening during a pandemic in other countries including Mexico which generated $ 6.3 million. Australia made the same $ 6.3 million over gross revenue for Godzilla vs. King of the Monsters and Russia earned $ 5.8 million.

Taiwan opened with $ 5.2 million and marked as the second-largest opening for a Warner Bros. release behind Aquaman. Meanwhile, India marked the third-largest opening after Batman v Superman and The Nun with $ 4.8 million.
