Kominfo Still Monitoring Telegram And Bigo's Movements Before Being Blocked
Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi said that he was still waiting for a study from the Directorate General of Informatics Applications, before deciding to block Telegram and Bigo Live regarding online gambling and pornography.
Previously, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics had twice sent a warning letter to each platform. Unfortunately, there has been no response or improvement on the platform, which has prompted the government to take firm steps such as blocking access.
"If I want it now (blocked). But the team (Aptica) must review first. (If so) we will take wise and decisive steps," Budi told the media on Wednesday, August 28 at the Kominfo office, Jakarta.
Director General of Information and Public Communication (IKP) Prabu Revolution emphasized that Kominfo will continue to monitor all movements of the two platforms.

According to him, Indonesia is a state of law, so it is necessary to conduct a more in-depth study, and cannot arbitrarily close an application. Kominfo will also ensure that Telegram and Bigo Live provide updates on their platforms in accordance with the laws and regulations in force in Indonesia.
"So we see the gesture, so from this second letter, if for example the gesture is positive, there is a desire to fix everything according to our wishes, we will make it an assessment, but if for example there is no gesture, we will quickly take action like we said earlier, directly game over, said the Minister, "said Prabu.
The Ministry of Communication and Informatics has sent a letter of first and second warnings to PT Bigo Technology Indonesia on July 16 and August 21, 2024. Meanwhile, the second warning letter for Telegram was given in June.
