Golkar Turns Around, Withdraws Support From Andra Soni-Dimyati's Partner And Then Carries Airin-Ade Sumardi In The Banten Pilkada
JAKARTA - The Golkar Party has officially shifted its support from the Andra Soni-Dimyati Natakusumah pair to Airin Rachmi Diany-Ade Sumardi as candidates for Banten governor and deputy governor in the upcoming regional elections.
Golkar Party Chairman Bahlil Lahadalia announced this decision in a press conference at the Golkar DPP Office, Jakarta, Tuesday, 17 August.
Bahlil explained that Airin's selection was based on her quality and dedication as a Golkar cadre.
‘This selection process is quite long. Airin is one of Golkar's best cadres, we should support her to run in the Banten regional election,’ Bahlil said in a statement on Tuesday 27 August.
He also stated that Ade Sumardi from PDI-P was chosen as the deputy governor candidate to accompany Airin. This decision, according to Bahlil, reflects Golkar's inclusiveness.
‘Golkar is open to differences in the origin of candidates. This is in line with President Jokowi and Mr Prabowo's message about the importance of a solid coalition. Differences in Pilkada must still be in the spirit of togetherness and democracy,’ Bahlil added.
Bahlil emphasised that this move is proof of Golkar's commitment to inclusive democracy, while reflecting strength in diversity.
‘We handed over the B1WK to Airin from Golkar and Ade Sumardi from PDI-P. We hope they can bring positive changes to Banten and be an example of good politics, where differences in political views need not be a problem,’ he said.
Regarding the change in support from the Andra Soni-Dimyati pair, Bahlil said that the political dynamics that occurred were normal.
‘Politics is dynamic. Communication always happens until the final decision is made. The Advanced Indonesia Coalition remains solid,’ Bahlil explained.
