The Constitutional Court's Decision Is The Cause Of The Cancellation Of The PKS Ariza-Marshel In The South Tangerang Regional Head Election

JAKARTA - Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) politician Achmad Yani revealed the reason his party revoked support for Ahmad Riza Patria-Marshel Widianto in the South Tangerang (Tangsel) Pilkada.

Yani explained that the decision of the Constitutional Court (MK) regarding the reduction in the threshold for nominating regional heads which made PKS cancel the investigation of Ariza-Marshel in the election of the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of South Tangerang.

"Yes, of course with the Constitutional Court, PKS has a chance there to run," Yani told reporters, Tuesday, August 27.

The Constitutional Court allows districts/cities with a population of more than 1 million voters, political parties or coalitions of political parties participating in the election must get a valid vote of at least 6.5 percent in these districts/cities. The population of South Tangerang this year is around 1.4 million people.

So, currently PKS has the opportunity to carry the South Tangerang cawalkots without the need to collaborate with political parties to form a coalition.

Meanwhile, in the previous regulation, PKS could not carry it alone in the South Tangerang Pilkada because the 2024 Pilleg votes in the city were below 25 percent or the number of DPRD seats obtained was below 20 percent.

"That's why when there is an opportunity, we prepare the cadres from the opportunity to run (nomination in the South Tangerang Pilkada)," said Yani.

Previously, PKS had officially submitted an approval form or B of the KWK Political Party to the duo of Gerindra Party politicians and comics as a candidate pair for Mayor and Deputy Mayor of South Tangerang (Tangsel).

Ariza Patria and Marshel received the KWK political party B form directly from PKS President Ahmad Syaikhu, in the National Consolidation of Regional Head Candidates and Deputy Regional Heads at ICE BSD, Tangerang Regency, Tuesday, August 20.
