The Legislative Council Of The House Of Representatives Agrees On The Age Limit For Candidates For Regional Heads To Follow The Supreme Court's Decision, Not The Constitutional Court
JAKARTA - The Legislation Body (Baleg) of the DPR has agreed that the age rules for regional head candidates (cakada) will continue to follow the decision of the Supreme Court (MA), not the decision of the Constitutional Court (MK).
The Supreme Court's decision states that the age of cagub-cawagub is at least 30 years, and 25 years for candidates for mayors-candidates for deputy mayors as of the time of inauguration. Meanwhile, the Constitutional Court emphasized that the requirements for the age of the regional head candidates were calculated since the appointment of the person concerned as a candidate for regional head by the KPU.
"Agreed, are you referring to the Supreme Court?" asked the Deputy Chairperson of the DPR Baleg, Achmad Baidowi (Awiek) at the DPR Baleg meeting with the DPD and the government at the DPR building, Wednesday, August 21.
The agreement was interrupted by the PDIP faction. However, Awiek said, the majority of the factions agreed to refer to the Supreme Court's decision regarding the requirements for the age limit for regional head candidates.
"Referring to the Supreme Court, the majority (approved), it appears that they agree (to the Supreme Court's decision)," he said.
The DPR Baleg meeting notes on the Pilkada Bill and the age limit are "Agreed to a DIM change of substance. It is approved by the Working Committee with a formulation: A minimum of 30 years for Candidates for Governors, Candidates for Deputy Governors and 25 for Candidates for Regents, Candidates for Deputy Regents, and Candidates for Mayors and Deputy Mayors, starting from the inauguration of elected pairs".

The Baleg decision became a breath of fresh air for PSI General Chair, Kaesang Pangarep, who was previously discussed unable to advance in the 2024 Pilkada due to the latest decision of the Constitutional Court.
Kaesang can still progress even though he is currently only 30 years old in December. Kaesang will even be 30 years old if he wins and is appointed regional head.
