PWI 2024 National Conference Decides South Kalimantan to Host HPN 2025 and North Sumatra to Host Porwanas 2027
BANJARMASIN — The National Working Conference (Konkernas PWI 2024) held at the Aria Barito Hotel, Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, on Wednesday, August 21, resulted in a number of strategic decisions.
In the 2024 Konkernas PWI, it was unanimously decided to move the implementation of the 2025 National Press Day (HPN) from Riau to South Kalimantan. In addition, Medan, North Sumatra, was designated as the host of the 2027 National Journalist Sports Week (Porwanas).
The 2024 Konkernas PWI also rejected the PWI Extraordinary Congress (KLB) held in Jakarta recently and expressed full support for Hendry Ch Bangun as the General Chairperson of the Central PWI for the 2023-2028 period.
With the theme "Maintaining Togetherness Towards a Better PWI," the 2024 Konkernas PWI was attended by the chairpersons and administrators of 30 PWI Provinces. The event was opened directly by the General Chairperson of the Central PWI, Hendry Ch Bangun.
In his speech, Hendry Ch Bangun emphasized that there is no dualism in the management of the Central PWI. The legitimate management is the result of the PWI Congress in Bandung on September 27, 2023, which appointed him as the General Chairperson of the Central PWI.
Hendry also criticized the Extraordinary Congress initiated by parties claiming to represent the PWI. According to him, the Extraordinary Congress was held by administrators who had been dismissed for violating the PWI Articles of Association and Bylaws (AD/ART), so the Extraordinary Congress was invalid and illegal.
"The Extraordinary Congress was held by people who were delirious. They are administrators who have been dismissed for violating the AD/ART. "The PWI Extraordinary Congress is invalid and illegal," said Hendry Ch Bangun.
Since being elected, Hendry Ch Bangun said that he has succeeded in realizing a number of work programs, including improving the professionalism and national insight of journalists through the Journalist Competency Test Program (UKW) and the Indonesian Journalism School (SJI).
From September 27 to now, the Central PWI has successfully held 20 free UKWs in various provinces. Hendry Ch Bangun also stated that by the end of December 2024, free UKWs will be held in 38 provinces, plus one session at PWI Solo.
Meanwhile, the free SJI Program has been implemented in four provinces and will follow in four other provinces, including North Sumatra and East Java.
