Cilacap Dilanda Drought, 4,601 Families Experience Clean Water Crisis

CILACAP - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Cilacap Regency, Central Java, has distributed clean water assistance to 4,601 families consisting of 17,999 people affected by drought in the 2024 dry season.

"Based on data as of Tuesday (20/8), we have distributed 92 tanks of clean water equivalent to 460,000 liters for 17,999 people," said Head of Emergency and Logistics Division of BPBD Cilacap Budi Setyawan, quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, August 21.

He explained that tens of thousands of residents affected by the drought were spread across 16 villages, namely Bojong, Ujungmanik, and Kawunganten Lor villages, Kawunganten sub-districts; Cimrutu, Rawapu, Bulupayung, and Sidamukti villages, Patimuan sub-districts; Gintungreja and Karanggintung villages, Gandrungmangu sub-districts.

In addition, Rawajaya Village, Bantarsari District; Karangkemiri Village, Mandala, and Sawangan, Jeruklegi District; Panikel Village, Kampunglaut District; Kunci Village, Sidareja District; as well as Karangbenda Village, Adipala District.

"However, not all residents in the 16 villages were affected by drought. The residents affected by the drought live in 32 hamlets spread across the 16 villages," he said.

He acknowledged that the number of villages affected by drought in the 2024 dry season continues to grow, but the number is still far below the data from mapping drought-prone areas with 105 villages in 20 sub-districts.
