Karawang Police Arrest 2 Perpetrators Of Attacks By Kiai NU And Banser

The Karawang District Police announced the arrest of two suspects in the attack on the Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) kiai group and a number of Banser members in the Rengasdengklok area, Karawang, West Java.

"Two people were arrested. Each with the initials F and S. Both are now being held at the Karawang Police Headquarters detention center," said Karawang Police Chief AKBP Edwar Zulkarnain, when exposing the disclosure of the case at the Karawang Police Headquarters, reported by ANTARA, Friday, August 16.

In addition to arresting the two perpetrators, the police also confiscated a number of evidences in the form of two helmets, one black vest, one striped shirt, one pair of Puma shoes, one Vespa two-wheeled vehicle, two black bags, one Iphone cellphone, and two ID cards belonging to the perpetrator.

The police chief said that in accordance with the results of the examination, the beating or attack of the Nahdlatul Ulama kiai group and Banser members took place on the Dusun Warudoyong highway, Rengasdengklok District, Karawang, on Saturday (10/8) at around 22.00 WIB.

While at the location, the perpetrators stopped the victim's vehicle. Then the damage and beatings.

"The victim was two people, namely a member of the Karawang Banser who was escorting a group of kiai who wanted to attend an invitation at the Al-Baghdadi Islamic Boarding School in Karawang," he said.

For their actions, the perpetrators were charged with Article 170 of the Criminal Code, namely jointly committing violence against people or goods.

The perpetrator is threatened with a maximum imprisonment of five years and six months.

Meanwhile, last week, video footage of the attack on the Nahdlatul Ulama kiai group and Banser members in the Rengasdengklok Karawang area circulated on a number of social media channels.

In the video, there is a group of people who have stopped the vehicle of the kiai group going to the Al-Baghdadi Islamic Boarding School in Rengasdengklok District.

After stopping the vehicle, the unknown group of people then vandalized the kiai's car, as well as attacked several Banser members who were with the kiai group.

Meanwhile, the head of the Ansor Karawang Youth Movement, Ahmad Syahid, previously said that on Saturday (10/8) night there had been a ambush of a group of kiai by a group of people who were about to go to the recitation location at the Al Baghdadi Islamic Boarding School, Rengasdengklok District.

"Kai Ihsan, Rais Syuriah MWC North Cikarang NU at that time was about to attend a recitation at Al Bagdadi. But before arriving at the location, first transit at the Mambaul Ulum Rengasdengklok Islamic Boarding School," he said.

Then Kiai Ihsan together with the leadership of the Mambaul Ulum Islamic Boarding School continued their journey to Al Bagdadi. However, in the middle of the road, a group of unknown people was blocked.
