PBNU Will Not Ask Jokowi For Help In Facing Conflicts With PKB

Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) Executive Board Umarsyah emphasized that his party would not involve President Joko Widodo to help mediate the conflict with the National Awakening Party (PKB).

This decision was taken although, on Wednesday, August 14, PBNU General Chair Yahya Cholil Staquf (Gus Yahya) visited the Presidential Palace and discussed the issue between PBNU and PKB and Jokowi.

"No, we don't involve outsiders (in the PBNU-PKB conflict)," Umarsyah said after the PBNU briefing to GP Ansor and Pagar Nusa in Central Jakarta, Friday, August 16.

He said the PBNU special committee team would again dig up information to resolve the PBNU conflict with PKB.

This was done after the mandate was given from Rais Aam PBNU to the General Chairperson of PBNU Yahya Cholil Staquf at the Tebuireng Islamic Boarding School, East Java, some time ago. Where, Gus Yahya was asked to evaluate the PKB.

"We are waiting for 1-2 days. Efforts are being made to make improvements. These steps are a fixed price. Whatever the story, PBNU will make this improvement. There is no word backward," explained Umarsyah.

So far, the PBNU special committee team has dug up information from a number of parties related to the PBNU conflict with PKB. Among them are former PBNU Secretary General Lukman Edy to former PKB administrator Effendy Choirie.

The PBNU Special Committee has also invited the Secretary General of the PKB DPP Hasanuddin Wahid to the PBNU office. However, Hasanuddin was reluctant to attend.

After receiving a mandate from Rais Aam, PBNU will again make efforts to resolve the feud with PKB, one of which is summoning the General Chairperson of PKB Muhaimin Iskandar (Cak Imin).

"We will summon the General Chairperson (Cak Imin)," said the NU Santri Commander.

However, Umarsyah emphasized that this does not mean that PBNU General Chair Gus Yahya intends to take over PKB from Cak Imin.

"That's a wild narrative because what PBNU actually does is to improve, to return PKB to its spirit, PKB as PBNU's political instrument," he said.
