Despite Declining, Clothing Imports From China Are Still High Until July 2024

JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) noted that imported clothing increased in July 2024 when compared to the previous month. Still dominated by clothes from China and Vietnam flooded the Indonesian market.

Acting Head of BPS Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti said that imports of finished clothes and knitted accessories (HS 61) in July 2024 were recorded at 55.46 percent compared to the previous month.

Meanwhile, imports of clothing were not knitted (HS 62) by 29.01 percent when compared to the previous month.

For HS 61 mainly from China, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Turkey and Italy. Meanwhile, HS 62 mainly came from China, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Hong Kong and Morocco," Amalia said at a press conference, Thursday, August 15.

Even so, Amalia said that cumulatively or from January to July 2024, clothing imports and knitted accessories (HS 61) from China decreased by 4.75 percent.

Meanwhile, imports of accessories that are not knitted (HS 62) from China decreased by 7.17 percent at most from non-chovy (HS 62121099).

"So if the monthly increase, but if the export or import data is relatively good, it is looking at the cumulative number. Because the monthly increase in imports is relatively influenced by the process of sending the need for stock which may be different every month," he explained.
