Undip Young Doctor Suicide Case, DPR Encourages Investigation: Fire If Senior Performs Bullying
JAKARTA - Commission IX of the Indonesian House of Representatives highlighted the case of a 30-year-old student specialist medicine at Diponegoro University (Undip) who was found dead in her boarding room allegedly committing suicide. Police said the victim died after injecting a sedative in his own body.
Member of Commission IX DPR RI Rahmad Handoyo assessed that the suicide case of a specialist doctor school participant at Undip proved that there was no change in the bullying incident in the world of education. The reason is, it was found that the victim's daily record that the person concerned felt heavy with his senior lessons and behavior.
"It is very unfortunate and concerning that the suicide case of a specialist doctor school participant at Undip has proven that there has been no change and there continues to be bullying carried out by the world of specialist medical education in Indonesia," Rahmad told reporters, Thursday, August 15.
Moreover, continued Rahmad, this case occurred again when Indonesia was very short on specialist doctors. According to him, bullying of students prevented universities from producing specialist doctors. "Because of the impact of bullying, among others, there were suicide, stress and depression, many wanted to commit suicide or injure themselves due to the psychological burden of the education process, some resigned because they were not strong in the burden of education," said Rahmad. Therefore, Rahmad assessed, to create a deterrent effect, to fire anyone who contributed to the bullying of cases at Undip.
"If no one is fired, the next victim will appear again and bullying will continue," he said.
The member of the health commission also encouraged the Police to thoroughly investigate and investigate the possibility of criminal potential, by deepening the records of daily books or others. This, according to Rahmad, so that this case is clear and will not happen again in the future.
"Involving the Government, in this case the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health for thorough investigation as well as to conduct a thorough evaluation of the education system of specialist doctor programs that focus on education and eradicate all forms of bullying in the world of specialist medical education," he explained.
"The House of Representatives Commission IX also urges campus education institutions and hospitals appointed to take firm action by firing specialist doctor education participants who are proven to have bullied and taken actions outside the substance of education," concluded Rahmad.
