BMKG: Great Earthquake M 5.2 Banten Thursday Morning Feels Until Garut

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) detected an earthquake measuring 5.2 magnitudes rocked Lebak, Banten, Thursday, August 15 in the morning.

The tremors of the earthquake were felt for a while in Cianjur, Sukabumi, Bandung Regency, Bogor City and Garut.

In an early warning posted through the infoBMKG application system in Jakarta, Thursday, it was reported that the epicenter was located at sea at a depth of 10 kilometers with coordinates 7.70 LS.106.08 East Longitude or 87 kilometers from the southwest of Bayah District, Lebak, Banten.

The earthquake tremors at 00.55 WIB were reported to have reached Sukabumi Regency, West Java, 94 kilometers from the epicenter based on a temporary analysis of BMKG seismological.

The earthquake was declared to have no potential for a tsunami.

However, the public is advised to be vigilant while remaining calm and not being influenced by issues that cannot be justified until the results of a thorough event analysis are reported by the BMKG.

BMKG then re-detected one aftershock activity measuring 3.5 magnitudes at 01.30 WIB.

The epicenter of the earthquake was detected at sea with coordinates 7.70 degrees South Latitude; 106.08 degrees East Longitude, or at a distance of 95 kilometers southwest of Sukabumi Regency, West Java, which is 25 kilometers deep.

The tremors were felt for a while in Cianjur, Sukabumi, and Bandung Regencies with an intensity scale of III MMI. Then, Bogor and Garut City with an intensity scale of II MMI.

According to Daryono, based on the results of the analysis, it was shown that the series of earthquakes had a sliding mechanism.

BMKG has not received any reports of the impact of the damage caused. However, Daryono ensured that based on the results of the analysis, the modeling of the earthquake did not have the potential to cause a tsunami.
