Former Minister Jokowi Expects IKN Not To Be Built Like Second Jakarta

JAKARTA - The capital city of Nusantara (IKN) is expected to become the center of Indonesia's new economic growth to encourage economic equality in the country. However, the former Minister of Research and Technology / Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency Bambang Brodjonegoro advised not to let IKN become the second Jakarta.

"Don't let IKN develop this archipelago in our thoughts that a second Jakarta will emerge. What we want to avoid is the extraordinary concentration of all economic activity in Jakarta, that's what happened today," said Bambang in a discussion on the launch of the book 9 Reasons and 8 Hopes of Moving the Capital City at the PUPR Ministry Building, Jakarta, Wednesday, August 14.

Met after the agenda, Bambang also explained his intention to make the statement. According to Bambang, IKN should not be built without a concept like Jakarta. IKN is expected not to become a big city whose population growth is much faster than its infrastructure capabilities.

"What I'm worried about is that the second Jakarta is an unplanned city because Jakarta is in a big hurry and it's not the governor's fault. But, from the start Jakarta's development was much faster than its infrastructure capabilities," he said.

On the other hand, Bambang reminded that IKN development is expected to also trigger economic growth in various other regions.

According to him, investment is very possible to enter IKN if the business world has also been given certainty to invest.

However, Bambang considered that the majority of investors would still be waiting and seeing. This is because the government is still waiting for the certainty of derivative regulations and the seriousness of the government to develop IKN.

"Investors who may have paid attention to IKN but are still waiting and see because they are waiting for confirmation of derivative regulations and also from the seriousness of the government in developing the city," he added.
