Russia Attacks Ukraine's Energy Facilities

JAKARTA - Ukraine shot down 17 of the 23 Russian-launched drones in attacks that damaged infrastructure in several areas.

As reported by Reuters, Russian troops also launched two Kh-59/69 guided missiles to attack Ukraine.

Ukraine's national power grid operator, Ukrenergo, said Russian drones hit energy facilities and caused temporary power outages for customers in parts of the Chernihiv region.

On Wednesday, August 14 morning, Russian troops also attacked energy facilities in the southern region, Ukrenergo said, without providing details.

Russia carried out a series of airstrikes against Ukrainian energy facilities this spring.

Kyiv said the attack destroyed half of its power generation capacity, forcing it to carry out a rotating blackout.

Meanwhile, Russia says energy infrastructure is a legitimate military target and denies targeting civilians or civilian infrastructure.

The attack on Tuesday, August 13 evening also damaged infrastructure in the northern region of Zhytomy. No casualties were reported, according to local authorities.

The air force shot down a drone in the southern region of Mykolaiv, regional governor Vitaliy Kim said. The debris damaged two private residences without any casualties reported.

Central Kyiv, Cherkasy and Kirovohrad district governors reported no damage to infrastructure or casualties after the attack.
