Ministry Of Industry Says Furniture Sector Makes Export Commitment Of IDR 17 Billion To India

The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) said the domestic furniture sector had recorded a commitment to export value of IDR 17 billion at the Delhi 2024 IndexPlus Exhibition in India, as well as evidence of efforts to expand the export market to non-traditional countries.

"The value of business commitments that have been recorded from Indonesia's participation at the exhibition is IDR 17 billion," said Director General of Agro Industry at the Ministry of Industry Putu Juli Ardika as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, August 13.

He said, in the event which was held on August 9-11, Indonesia was represented by six furniture companies and designers, namely Cocoon Asia and Handyanto Hardian, Chakra Naga Furniture and Chyntia Margareth, Wisanka and Suskariyanto, Dekor Asia Jayakarya and Gege Noby, Satori Rattan and Zulyo Kumara, as well as Nafarrel Furniture and Vincentius Aldi Masella.

Expert Staff to the Minister of Industry for Strengthening Domestic Industry Ability Ignatius Warsito said India has considerable and promising market potential.

This is because based on IndexPlus data, India's consumer market has the potential which is predicted to be the third largest in the world in 2027.

In addition, the percentage of India's population living in urban areas is now recorded to increase by 37 percent and continues to increase, with India's furniture market value reaching 41 billion US dollars. "We hope that the large market potential and dynamic furniture market trends can be of concern to all furniture industry players, including furniture designers, who played a major role in creating marketing furniture design trends," he said.

In addition to expanding the market to India, the Ministry of Industry is also seeking to expand exports to other non-traditional countries, this is because based on Expert Market Research data, the global furniture market value in 2023 was recorded at US$629 billion, and in 2024 it is projected to grow by 5 percent. Previously, the Ministry of Industry said that the growth of furniture industry's gross domestic product (GDP) in the first semester of 2024 reached 0.50 percent. This is good news, considering that in the last two years the industry experienced contraction.
