OIKN Targets Autonomous Trains To Function Optimally In October 2024

The Capital Archipelago Authority (OIKN) targets the autonomous rail transit (ART) train to function optimally in October 2024.

"The commission plan will be carried out for two months, so from August to October. Later October it must be autonomous (without a driver)," said Deputy for Green Transformation and Digital Authority IKN Mohammed Ali Berawi quoting Antara.

Ali explained that the autonomous train technology takes time to adjust to the travel route.

Therefore, continued Ali, the commission period or trial period from August to October will be used to enter data related to travel routes.

"So, for now (at the trial period) will use the driver. In some time, the sensor will be recorded, then the introduction of the travel route," said Ali.

After recording the road route, he said, then the train can operate automatically without using the driver.

If until October the train technology cannot function automatically or without a driver, Ali firmly said he would return the train.

"If it's not an autonomous, it won't be (used). We'll return it. Right, I'm straight forward. Because this claim is an autonomous, real rapid transit. This is what makes us (thinking) this is a good thing. We brought it here, we are ready to buy it, "he said.

Thus, regarding the planned operation of the autonomous train on August 17 to serve shuttle guests on the celebration of the 79th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia, Ali said the train would be operated manually or using the driver.

"Well, for the 17th, as far as I understand, this is still in the use of drivers (drivers). So it's still manual," he said.

For information, the Director General (Dirjen) of Railways of the Ministry of Transportation M Risal Wasal ensured that the railless autonomous train or Autonomous Rail Rapid Transit (ART) is ready to operate in the capital city of the archipelago (IKN) to serve shuttle guests on the celebration of the 79th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia.

ART operating in IKN is an electric-based mass transportation mode that does not require conventional rails.

This train uses an automatic guide system that follows the special markings that have been installed on the road.

The feasibility test involved various parties, including the Directorate General of Railways of the Ministry of Transportation, the Archipelago Capital Authority (OIKN), the manufacturer of the China Railway Construction Corporation Limited (CRCC), and other related parties.

At the celebration of the 79th Indonesian Independence Day, the ART series of two with three carriages per set serves certain routes in the KIPP area to transport invited guests.

The maximum capacity of a series of ARTs is 300 passengers, but the number of carriages can be adjusted to the needs.
