Women's Weightlifter, Nurul Akmal Ready To Give Her Best Performance At The 2024 Paris Olympics

JAKARTA - Indonesia's mainstay women's weightlifter Nurul Akmal will certainly present his best performance in the women's +81 kilogram (kg) weightlifting match at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

"Yes, Nurul is ready to give his best performance," said Indonesian weightlifting team coach Muhammad Rusli quoting Antara.

Nurul Akmal became the last Indonesian athlete to appear for the weightlifting match which will be presented at the South Paris Arena 6 on Sunday (11/7) local time.

The 21-year-old lifter has undergone adequate preparations ranging from a training camp in Jakarta held by the Executive Board of the Indonesian Weightlifting Association to a training camp for about two weeks in Montpeiller, France.

He said the appearance of two of Nurul's colleagues, Eko Yuli Irawan and Rizki Juniansyah gave Nurul his own to strengthen physically and mentally so that he could perform optimally in the arena of matches.

"The point is that Nurul will compete with all her might and try her best to try to give the best for the Indonesian people," added Rusli.

Nurul's appearance this time will be the second time at the Olympics, after participating in the 2022 Tokyo Olympics. This means that the lifter from Aceh is experienced in feeling the atmosphere of the world's highest sports competition so that he is more prepared to compete.

The weightlifting branch has contributed a gold medal for Indonesia through male lifter Rizki Juniansyah in the 73 kg class with a total lift of 154 kg in the form of a snatch of 155 kg and a clean and jerk of 199 kg.

Meanwhile, lifter Eko Yuli Irawan, who appeared first, did not donate a medal and suffered an injury while competing in the clean and jerk class.

Rizki's gold medal increased the medal collection for the Indonesian team to two gold after previously being won by rock climbing athlete Veddriq Leonardo and one bronze which was won by women's singles badminton athlete Gregoria Mariska Tunjung.
