Inalum Gives An Inauguration Signal For The SGAR Project In September Will Be Attended By Jokowi

JAKARTA - BUMN Holding Indonesian Mining Industry (MIND ID) revealed that the Smelter Grade Alumina (SGAR) project operated by PT Bauxite Alumina Indonesia (PT BAI) or Mempawah Project will soon operate.

It is hoped that the inauguration of this strategic project will be led by President Joko Widodo, in mid-September.

Inalum's Director of Business Development Melati Sarnita said this was implied when President Joko Widodo visited the MIND ID booth on the sidelines of the 2024 LIKE Festival.

"We invite President Jokowi to SGAR Mempawah in the context of commissioning, so we want to inject bauxite into the plan. That was the conversation. (Javaban Jokowi) ready! You are very happy. Ready and willing to be prepared (visit)," Melati said in a statement to the media, Friday, August 9.

Melati explained that the SGAR project is the result of a consortium of PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (Antam) with PT Indonesia Asahan Alumunium (Inalum) and is still focusing on developing infrastructure and increasing the added value of mineral commodities in the Mempawah area, West Kalimantan.

"MIND ID always ensures that the implementation of strategic projects runs according to the standards and timelines that have been proclaimed. MIND ID also always opens space for optimization and acceleration of projects," added Melati.

Previously, President Jokowi visited the SGAR Mempawah project last March.

During President Jokowi's visit in September, the SGAR Mempawah project has reached the 97 percent stage. This project will reach the Commercial Operation Date (COD) stage in February 2025. Meanwhile, the process of processing bauxite into alumina can be carried out in the fourth quarter of 2024.

If it is operational, this factory can produce 1 million tons of alumina per year with an estimated bauxite raw material of 3.3 million tons per year. This project is divided into two phases and costs an investment value of around 1.7 billion US dollars.
