NasDem Reminds Ormas Mining Permits Not To Cause Environmental Damage
Chairman of the Central Leadership Council (DPP) of the NasDem Party, Atang Irawan, highlighted the issue of granting mining permits to religious organizations by President Joko Widodo.Atang views that the state does have an obligation to regulate relations between citizens, including in the use of mining management rights. However, Atang emphasized that mining matters are not only a matter of managing and then taking input from mines that can have implications for the welfare of the community. He emphasized that mining permit operations by mass organizations should not damage the environment.“Regarding environmental resistance, that's what I think is an important note. Although there is affirmation from the state against elements of the nation, one of them is for example from mass organizations, but also this does not rule out the right of other people to access and manage this mining,” said Atang in his statement, Friday, August 9.Meanwhile, the founder of Lokataru Haris Azhar criticized the policy of granting exclusive mining permits to religious organizations. Azhar assessed that this policy only provides a license slot without paying attention to technical and administrative aspects that are important in mining management."There is a lack of transparency of information regarding the mine allocation and applicable regulations, and it is considered that this policy only provides exclusive rights without ensuring effective implementation," he said.Even though religious organizations are given the right to manage mines, Azhar emphasizes that procedures and regulations must still be adhered to. Mining management, according to him, requires clear details regarding location permits, land control, and operational mechanisms that cannot be ignored." “So, exclusivity in people. So, if you study law, learn business, you understand that there are people, the entity has goods, there are new goods, where have we prepared them, Sir, next to Venus, right, what's next to Neptune, you ask how big is the calculation of earth science techniques?" said Haris.Jokowi allows religious organizations to manage mines through Government Regulation (PP) Number 25 of 2024 concerning Amendments to Government Regulation (PP) Number 96 of 2021 concerning the Implementation of Mineral and Coal Mining Business Activities.Jokowi said that granting mining permits for religious organizations is an effort by the government to support economic equality. This was conveyed by Jokowi after PP Muhammadiyah decided to receive a mining business permit, after a similar decision for NU.
"We want economic justice. Many have complained to me, ‘Sir, why are those mines only given to big ones, big companies? Even if we are given concessions, it can also be done’,” said Jokowi, "July 26 July.
