KSP: The Right Public Policy Can Succeed IKN Development
Deputy IV of the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) Wandy N. Tuturoong said that the right public policy could make development successful in the capital city of Nusantara (IKN).
He gave an example of the Capital Archipelago Authority (OIKN) which embraced the community during the IKN development was one of the right public policies.
"The purpose of the particiatory government is to get engagement to get diverse perspectives and that's what it does, for example by Mr. Alimudin in collaboration with the local community to get a local perspective. That's a modern approach in public policy," said Wandy during the ASNFest 2024 event entitled "Young ASN in the capital city of Nusantara" which was held at the ANTARA Heritage Center (AHC) Complex, Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Saturday, August 3.
Meanwhile, the Alimudin he meant was the Deputy for Social Culture for the Empowerment of the OIKN Community who was also present at the event.
Wandy told about public policy in handling the COVID-19 pandemic.
"We once had a very valuable experience when dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic. Everyone has studied public policy, there is no recipe on how to deal with a pandemic because of what? We never have historical data about COVID-19, what policy? What policy?," said Wandy.
He said that at the beginning of the handling of COVID-19, the government had to admit that there was stuttering. However, as the process progressed, the government was ultimately able to handle the COVID-19 pandemic.
"At the beginning we had to admit that we had stuttering, but from the process that I followed exactly every week, the President had two meetings. So, from there we understood the data-based situation, then an approach emerged, what approaches, gas and brakes," said Wandy.
He also stated that in the context of the public policy approach, he never thought about the approach to gas and brakes.
"Because this approach completely contradicts each other, when we have to gas, when we have to brake. This must be based on very dynamic data. If we brake, the economy is dead but that must be done because the transmission rate of COVID-19 is very high. But if we do the opposite gas, the advanced economy will increase, "said Wandy.

Therefore, in the context of handling COVID-19, he said that the public policy made was based on dynamic data.
"What kind of public policy should we do? There is no theory yet, but with a gas and brake approach, we can make an analogy if we ride a motorbike or our car, it is impossible for us to continue to gas, we also have to brake and what should the decision be based on? It must be based on data and data is dynamic. So, the challenge of making public policy in the future is dynamic data. We can't always rely on historical data," he said.
Likewise with the development at IKN that what is needed is a modern approach in public policy, not only talking about data but also talking about perspectives.
"So, we don't just rely on theory or we rely on obsolete data, but we rely on dynamics and imagination," said Wandy.
