Police: Terror Suspect In Batu Malang Buys Bombing With Parents' Money

JAKARTA - Spokesperson for Densus 88 Anti-terror Polri Kombes Pol. Aswin Siregar said that HOK (19), a terrorism suspect in Batu, Malang, East Java, bought bomb-making materials with money from the parents he tubed.

"After being dug up, the costs or funds used for the purchase of these materials were obtained by the person concerned from his own savings. Snack money, according to his statement, was given by the parents concerned," Aswin said in a video caption quoted from Antara, in Jakarta, Saturday, August 3.

According to the suspect's confession, said Aswin, the explosives ordered were sent to the home address which was also known by his parents. Therefore, Aswin appealed to the public not to ignore family members.

We here urge parents or as part of family members who know things like this to stop immediately. We are very open to receiving reports if there are things that are emergency in nature," he said.

Currently, the police are still investigating the case and are asking for information from several people, including the parents concerned.

"So, the suspect's parents are currently still being questioned to explore the profile of the suspect and this case itself," said Aswin.

HOK plans to carry out a suicide bombing targeting places of worship in Batu, Malang, East Java. HOK was arrested on Langsep Street, Comb Village, Batu District, Malang, Wednesday (31/7).

Then, the Densus team and the East Java Police conducted a search and search of the perpetrator's rented house at the Tanjung Bunga Housing Complex, Junrejo Village, Junrejo District, Batu City, Malang, Thursday, August 1.

After being arrested and searched, the police found several Chemical liquids that would be used as explosives.

"During the search, several jars containing ordinary Gotri were found as punishment or to increase the damage to the bomb made," said Aswin.

Aswin said the suspect HOK learned how to assemble bombs via the internet. HOK is also suspected of being a sympathizer of Daulah Islamiyah affiliated with the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

Meanwhile, the Head of the Public Information Bureau (Karopenmas) of the Public Relations Division of the National Police Brigadier General Pol. Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko said Densus 88 continues to make preventive efforts to enforce the law related to this criminal act of terrorism.

"We assure you that Densus 88 Anti-terror Police will continue to take steps properly, from preventive to law enforcement, and of course we can assure you that this handling process is still simultaneously sustainable," he said.

For his actions, HOK was charged with Article 15 in conjunction with Article 7 and/or Article 9 of Law Number 5 of 2018 concerning amendments to Law Number 15 of 2003 concerning the stipulation of Government Regulations in lieu of Law Number 1 of 2002 concerning the eradication of criminal acts of terrorism into law.
