Regarding Maximum Credit Transaction Limits, XL Axiata Supports Government Efforts to Eradicate Online Gambling

JAKARTA - Telecommunication service provider XL Axiata has confirmed that there has been a discussion with the Minister of Communication and Information, Budi Arie Setiadi, to limit the maximum credit transaction per day to one million rupiah.

"Yes, that's right, there has been a joint discussion regarding this with operators, including XL Axiata," said XL Axiata's Head of External Communications Henry Wijayanto to VOI on Friday, August 2 via text message.

Previously, Budi said that the decision to limit credit transactions was made as an effort by the Ministry of Communication and Information to eradicate online gambling practices that now use the credit transfer method as a medium for playing.

Henry also admitted that XL is currently still studying the Minister of Communication and Information's appeal, together with other cellular operators, including Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, Smartfren, and Telkomsel.

However, XL Axiata itself is committed to supporting the government's efforts to eradicate online gambling which is currently increasingly rampant in Indonesia.

"We are currently still studying this matter. In principle, we strongly support the eradication of online gambling (judol) in the most appropriate way," added Henry.

In addition, Kominfo has also taken a step forward by blocking access to online gambling sites via Virtual Private Network (VPN). Budi admitted that he had conducted a trial of blocking access with three free VPN brands that are widely used.

"According to the Directorate General of Aptika, there are 20-30 VPN companies. Well, as of yesterday, we first tested 3 that were indicated to be most widely used for online gambling, later we will gradually block all free VPNs that contain negative content," continued Budi.
