2024 Olympics Results: Jonatan Christie Eliminated

JAKARTA Jonathan Christie was eliminated from the 2024 Paris Olympics after losing in the second match of the group stage.

The 2018 Asian Games gold medalist lost two straight games 18-21 and 12-21 against India's singles Lakshya Sen, on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, evening WIB.

"Initially I was quite good in the match, but after that a few points were not patient, then he managed to equalize," said Jonathan in a statement received from PBSI.

This result made Jonathan complete his journey in Group L as runner-up with just one point. Meanwhile, Sen sat in the top position and got a ticket to the knockout phase.

Jonathan fills a group containing four men's singles. The results of the draw actually drew controversy.

He previously started the first match by winning over Julien Carraggi, the Belgian men's singles. However, his opponent Kevin Cordon (Guatemala) withdrew in the second match due to injury.

Jonathan said that the match against Sen actually went well. However, the mistake he made at crucial figures was the culprit.

"I've tried to be more pressing, but several times my shot went wide. It feels like it's still mixed, I can't reveal it yet," he said.

Jonathan is Indonesia's third representative of badminton who was eliminated from the 2024 Paris Olympics. He followed in the footsteps of Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti and Rinov Rivaldy/Pitha Haningtyas Mentari.
