FJI Jazz Summit 2024 Discuss Four Pillars Important To Develop Jazz Music In Indonesia

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Jazz Forum (FJI) presented four discussion themes in the holding of the 2024 FJI Jazz Summit which was held for two days at IFI Thamrin, Central Jakarta on July 26 and 27 last week.

The four themes are Jazz & Diplomacy, Jazz Industry, Jazz Education, and Jazz Ecosystem.

Chico Hindarto as Chairman of the FJI Management Board said the theme discussed this time was four important pillars that supported the development of jazz in Indonesia.

"Currently, the four themes are four pillars that we have to grow," said Chico Hindarto when met after the 2024 FJI Jazz Summit.

Through a Jazz & Diplomacy discussion, Jules Irrmann from the Fran calmais d'Indonese Institute and Kiera Emmons from the United States Embassy in Jakarta were present.

As for the Jazz Industry discussion, Astrid Sulaiman (Ubud Village Jazz Festival), Daniel Adisumarta (Manajer Batavia Collective), and Alvin Ghazalie (Two Four) were present.

"So, we also want to see that the industry is not only promoters, managers and artists, but there are also others," Chico said.

Then, the Jazz Education discussion presented three music teachers from three different universities, namely Sri Hanuraga (Pelita Harapan University, Indonesia), Otto Stuparitz (University of Amsterdam, Netherlands), and Chanutr Techatanan (Silpakorn University, Thailand).

"Then for education, we will discuss how jazz is a science. And we also present it in the form of workshops," said Chico.

The theme of the last discussion was Jazz Ecosystem, with a speaker Susan Peh (Singapore jazz Association), Candra Darusman (Condiri Jazz Goes to Campus), Alfred Ticoalu (single jazz).

Chico said the four pillars presented had a very wide discussion. Therefore, the upcoming holding will also bring the four discussion themes back, but with different perspectives.

"Probably next year it will be the same again, but the angle is different," concluded Chico Hindarto.
