Customs And Excise Report To The Ministry Of Industry About The Contents Of 26 Thousand Containers Detained At Priok And Perak Ports

Director General (Dirjen) of Customs and Excise of the Ministry of Finance Askolani said that his party had reported the contents of 26 thousand containers that had been detained at Tanjung Priok Port, Jakarta, and Tanjung Perak, Surabaya, to the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin).

"We have reported it to the Ministry of Industry," Askolani told reporters after a press conference in Jakarta, Wednesday, July 31, was confiscated by Antara.

However, he did not specify the contents of the container. He only ensures that the container affairs that are stuck have been carried out according to the provisions and are targeted for completion next week.

He emphasized that the containers entering Indonesia were in accordance with the import approval (PI) of the Ministry of Trade and Technical Considerations from the Ministry of Industry.

All containers through the screening process and are only allowed to enter if the results meet the predetermined provisions. Meanwhile, for containers that do not pass the screening, they are directed to re-export or be destroyed.

"What is illegal is that we destroy. So, we value the container according to the provisions," he said.

Previously, the Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said that his party wanted to find out the contents of the 26,415 containers or containers held at Tanjung Priok and Tanjung Perak Ports to prepare an effective prevention strategy in protecting the domestic industry.

According to him, the disclosure of data related to the contents of the container is the main thing that must be known, considering that of the 26,415 containers that have been held back, they have the potential to contain industrial raw materials that threaten the domestic industry.

In May, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati said that 17,304 containers were detained in Tanjung Priok and the buildup also occurred in Tanjung Perak, Surabaya, which was recorded at 9,111 containers, with a total of 26,415 being held back since the regulation of Permendag 36 of 2023 concerning the Prohibition of Restrictions on Imported Goods was issued.

To respond to this, the government issued a Minister of Trade Regulation 8/2024 which aims to address problems that arise due to the implementation of Permendag 36/2023 in conjunction with 3/2024 in conjunction with 7/2024 which tightens imports and adds import licensing requirements in the form of technical regulations (pertek).
