Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said the clothing industry had contracted for the past two years.
This was conveyed by Agus when opening the 2024 Indonesia Sport and Active Wear (ISAW) Exhibition at the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) Building, Jakarta, Wednesday, July 31.
"The finished clothing industry sector, which in the last two years I have to honestly experience contraction due to the extraordinary challenges of sluggish global markets and also the domestic market," said Agus.
Agus added, the clothing industry has contracted by 3 percent to the first quarter of 2024.
"So, in the GDP of the non-oil and gas processing industry in the first quarter of 2024, I will convey a contraction of 3 percent compared to the same period or year on year in 2023," he said.
He said the 2024 ISAW Exhibition was a tangible manifestation of the role of the Ministry of Industry to spur the development of the sports equipment industry and its supporting industries.

Thus, if the growth of the sports clothing industry sector continues to increase, it will also have an impact on the rise of the domestic clothing industry.
"I also hope that quick and accurate steps to accelerate the growth of the sports clothing industry sector, especially together, can contribute to revive the finished clothing industry sector, which in the last two years has contracted," he said.
