Erick Thohir Ready To Meet TikTok And YouTube CEOs With The President Of The Republic Of Indonesia

JAKARTA - Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir is ready to bring together TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew and YouTube CEO Neal Mohan with the President of the Republic of Indonesia. This is to discuss potential investment in the digital economy.

They promised to go to Indonesia, but I haven't got the black and white (official letter) if they want to come. I'll just wait. I said, if they go to Indonesia later, I'm ready to bring them together with President Jokowi or Prabowo (if they have served as president) in the future," said Erick quoting Antara.

Erick encourages healthy discussions with TikTok and YouTube about investment potential. He also encouraged discussions about efforts to maintain Indonesian culture in line with the massive use of the social media platform among the younger generation.

Good culture, Asian culture, this is also part so that they (TikTok and YouTube) take care of it. And who knows, there are also many educational content that can also be shared with other nations," he said.

Earlier on Friday (26/7), Erick uploaded a photo with TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew and YouTube CEO Neal Mohan on his Instagram account. The meeting took place during dinner at the Louvre Museum, France.

In a statement he wrote, Erick said that he discussed Indonesia's digital economic potential which would reach Rp4,500 trillion with the two CEOs.

Mohan and Chew, wrote Erick, trust Indonesia's digital economy potential and state that it is ready to support its development.

When confirmed, Erick explained that the meeting took place during the International Olympic Committee (IOC) event in France where he was invited as a member of the IOC. At that time, Erick had the opportunity to sit near Mohan and Chew.

"Just funny when there are two big companies competing to sit at one table. And there's my opportunity to pitch. Pitching in the sense that the digital economy in Indonesia has tremendous potential, will reach IDR 4,500 trillion," he explained.

Erick said that his party hopes that TikTok and YouTube can invest in Indonesia. The potential of the digital economy in Indonesia, he said, must be maximized together and not only as a market for Indonesia considering that this country has great economic potential in Southeast Asia.

"For me, they want to invest again because economic growth in Indonesia is none other than investment. And that is a tool for opening up jobs that can be maximized," said Erick.
