On The Phone, Biden And Brazilian President Will Discuss Maduro Chaos Claims To Win Venezuelan Election

JAKARTA - Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and US President Joe Biden will speak via phone calls focused on the Venezuelan presidential election.

The telephone contact will be held at 14.30 local time, Tuesday, July 30, according to the White House.

Reported by Reuters citing sources in Brazil, the telephone talks were scheduled at the request of the United States government to request a Brazilian assessment of the election results in neighboring Venezuela.

Venezuela's national election authority declared incumbent President Nicolas Maduro the winner of last weekend's election, giving him a third term of office, but the opposition also claimed victory.

The independent poll institute called Maduro's victory unreasonable, as opposition leaders and foreign observers urged vote counting to be announced.

The Brazilian government on Monday, July 29, praised the election day they called the "peaceful" election day in Venezuela.

Brazil said it was closely monitoring vote count, waiting for election authorities to release vote count to ensure the legitimacy of the election results.

Meanwhile, the Biden administration says election manipulation has removed Maduro's "credibility" claims of his victory in the re-election, and Washington leaves the door open for new sanctions against the OPEC country.
