Circulating Photos Of La Nyalla Meeting Hasto PDIP, Observer: Political Parties Do Not Have The Right To Intervene In The Election Of DPD Leaders

JAKARTA - Photo of the meeting of the Chairman of the DPD RI La Nyalla Mahmud Mattalitti with the Secretary General of the PDI-P (PDIP), Hasto Kristiyanto circulated on social media. The meeting between the two was allegedly to draw up strength in maintaining the position of chairman of the DPD RI in the 2024-2029 period and business reasons.

Political observer, Abubakar Solissa, assesses that political parties (political parties) do not have the rights, let alone intervene in the leadership of the DPD RI. He emphasized that the election of the chairman of the DPD RI is entirely the right of members.

"Normatively, political parties do not have the right to intervene in leadership in the DPD. The full rights are with members," Abubakar told reporters in Jakarta, Saturday, July 27.

Abubakar agrees that maneuvers such as these meetings often occur ahead of the election for the leadership of the DPD RI. So, according to him, it is normal for the public to suspect that La Nyalla's meeting with Hasto was an effort to maintain the seat of Chairman of the DPD RI.

"It's just that, it must be admitted, ahead of the DPD leadership election, there are usually political maneuvers that are carried out, both from La Nyalla Mattalitti as incumbents and other challengers who have the same obsession to become chairman of the DPD," said the Executive Director of Indonesian Political Partners.

On a different occasion, political observer and Executive Director of Survey and Polling Indonesia (SPIN), Igor Dirgantara, regretted that the meeting between La Nyalla and Hasto was really to draw up strength in maintaining the position of chairman of the DPD.

Igor said that both efforts had damaged democracy which had gone well in the country. According to him, La Nyalla as the top leader of a senator should set a good example in democracy.

"Yes, it is something that destroys democracy, because the chairman of the DPD should uphold democracy," said Igor, Saturday, July 27.

Igor even mentioned La Nyalla's 'arrogant' attitude when chairing the DPD plenary meeting some time ago. At that time, the meeting was chaotic because La Nyalla was suspected of acting arbitrarily in preparing changes to the rules and regulations to accommodate the mechanism for determining the DPD leadership package for the next period.

"Previously I also read about the chaotic creation of rules in DPD, that's ironic, yes, which is an individual representative in democracy, instead shows an undemocratic side in today's era," said Igor.

Igor suspects that there is a personal interest in efforts to maintain the seat of the chairman of the DPD. Moreover, news broke that Hasto and La Nyalla had a common business.

"Yes, that's right, Hasto is being targeted by the KPK. So it's natural that the allegations lead to securing business. If true, this clearly destroys democracy that has gone well," said Igor.
