Researcher Recommends The Elimination Of 'New Energy' In The EBET Bill

JAKARTA - Researcher of the Indonesian Foundation of CERAH Sartika Nur Salati recommends the elimination of new types of energy in the Draft Law on New Energy and Renewable Energy (RUU EBET), because it still uses coal.

This new energy uses technology that (the source of energy) can come from fossil energy. For example, coal gasification is still using coal. The cash disbursed coal is also still using coal. So it is not yet free of emissions," said Sartika at the 'One Decade of President Jokowi: To what extent is Indonesia's Energy Transition?' which was held in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Friday, July 26.

Sartika describes a list of energies that are included in the new energy category, namely nuclear, hydrogen, coal methane gas, cashed coal, and gasted coal.

According to Sartika, the presence of a new type of energy that still uses coal-based materials is not a solution for the energy transition in Indonesia, because in the end it still uses fossil energy.

Therefore, he assessed that the use of new energy terms that still promote fossil energy needs to be eliminated in the EBET Bill and the Draft National Energy Policy Government Regulation (RPP KEN) which is being discussed by the DPR and the National Energy Council.

Sartika pays attention to the EBET Bill and RPP KEN because these two regulations will determine the preparation of strategic documents to achieve energy transitions, such as the National Energy General Plan (RUEN), the General Draft Regional Energy (RUED), the National Electricity General Plan (RUKN), and the Electric Power Supply Business Plan (RUPTL).

"The Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) target actually has the potential to not be achieved if, for example, in the use of the new energy terminology and renewable energy it is still integrated, because the new energy is not free of emissions," said Sartika.

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) through the Directorate General of New Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation revealed that the discussion of the Draft Energy New Energy Bill (RUU EBET) with the DPR RI is only to discuss the Business Plan for Providing Electricity (RUPTL) Green.

Furthermore, the 20th DPR RI Plenary Meeting for Trial Period V for Session Year 2023-2024 approved the extension of the time for discussing the Draft Law on New Energy and Renewable Energy (EBET).
