Kominfo Collaborates With MUI To Eradicate Online Gambling In Indonesia

Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi said that the Ministry of Communication and Information has succeeded in blocking more than 2.6 million online gambling sites on the internet from July 17, 2023 to July 23, 2024.

According to Budi, in a press conference held on Thursday, July 25 at the Kominfo Office, the steps taken by Kominfo were able to withstand approximately 50 percent of online gambling growth in Indonesia.

Previously, data from PPATK stated that the total value of online gambling transactions throughout 2023 reached IDR 327 trillion. If left unchecked, in 2024 it will be estimated to increase to IDR 900 trillion.

"What we are doing is able to withstand up to 50 percent of the possible impact of online gambling. If in numbers, we are able to save or detain people from playing gambling up to Rp45 trillion," Budi told the media.

Furthermore, Kominfo also collaborated with the Indonesian Ulema Council to jointly take massive steps, so that online gambling can be eradicated from the country.

"I invite all elements of society in this country to join hands, unite, save this nation from online gambling and we declare war on online gambling," said Chairman of the MUI Leadership Council, KH Anwar Iskandar.
