Jokowi Asks To Take Advantage Of Parliamentary Cooperation To Find Solutions To Asia-Pacific Problems
JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said cooperation between parliaments could be used to find joint solutions to various problems that occur in the Asia-Pacific region.
"Parliamentary cooperation can be used to share experiences, share best practices in finding joint solutions, because parliament is a bridge between people's aspirations and public policies," said the President in his remarks at the Indonesia-Pacific Parliamentary Partnership (IPPP) event in Jakarta, Thursday, July 25, which was confiscated by Antara.
The Head of State really appreciates and appreciates the Indonesia-Pacific parliamentary partnership as a strategic initiative to strengthen partnerships in the Pacific.
"This partnership is important to strengthen, especially now that we are all facing big challenges, both in terms of economic uncertainty, geopolitical tension between large powers, the threat of climate change, and various crises," he said.
According to the President, there are three important sectors that currently require joint and immediate handling.
First, regarding climate change, President Jokowi said the potential for sea level rise of up to 1 meter at 2100 as expected by the United Nations is a major threat to the region, so it is necessary to strengthen parliamentary advocacy to mitigate this, by adapting policies and increasing infrastructure and environmental cooperation.
Second, related to the blue economy, which is a huge potential area. The World Bank said that this sector has the potential to contribute up to 10 percent of GDP if managed sustainably, so that encouragement from parliament is needed to increase regional connectivity, as well as collaboration in law enforcement and marine resource conservation.

"Through this parliamentary partnership, let's strengthen the spirit of brotherhood, mutual trust, and mutual respect, including respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity," he said.
Jokowi believes that through strong collaboration efforts to maintain stability and achieve prosperity in the Pacific region can be achieved.
