As A Result Of Global IT Blackouts, Cyber Experts Are Difficult To Predict Recovery Time
JAKARTA - The whole world is being shocked by news about the global IT outage of Windows devices, which has an impact on thousands of business entities around the world, including airports and banks.
It is also known that this is due to a software update problem released by cybersecurity vendor Crowdstrike.
Based on an official statement from either Microsoft or CrowdStricte, there are about 8.5 million devices affected by the blackout that has occurred since 19 July.
At this stage, Kaspersky's Head of Threat Research, Alexander Liskin, said it was difficult to estimate how long it would take to fix the problem.
The difficulty lies in the fact that when the problem occurs, every device (computer, laptop or server) must be re-booted to safe mode manually; this cannot be done using management tools," he said in a statement.
Thus, it can be said that this problem is indeed a very serious problem that has affected many processes, including critical infrastructure.
According to Liskin, to avoid such a situation, information security vendors must be very responsible for the quality of the updates they release.
Then, he also added the importance of complying with detailed renewal release principles. This means that the update should not be distributed globally simultaneously.

"But gradually, so that if an unexpected failure occurs, it can be localized and repaired quickly," he said further.
In addition, Liskin also emphasized the need for software companies to monitor and immediately respond to any situation by immediately stopping the update.
Problem solving is a priority at all levels of the company. Like all cyber incidents, it's important not only to eliminate visible damage, but also to find and improve the root of the problem to prevent similar incidents in the future," he concluded.
