Jokowi: Green Economy Potential From Coconut Development Gives Indonesia Great Opportunity

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) stated that the potential for a green economy provides great opportunities for Indonesia, including through the development of coconuts, cocoa, cocoa, coffee, pepper, and cloves.

"The green economy is an opportunity, a huge potential for our country, Indonesia," he said at the 51st Cocotech Conference in Surabaya, East Java, quoted from Antara, Monday, July 22.

President Jokowi said that from these commodities there are coconut commodities that have enormous potential because Indonesia has an area of 3.8 million hectares with production reaching 2.8 million tons per year.

This makes Indonesia ranked second in the world in terms of coconut commodities, with the regions that have the greatest potential to produce coconut are North Sulawesi Province and Riau Province.

"Our exports are also not a small amount, namely 1.55 billion US dollars. This is a very large number and can be increased again if we are serious," he said.

Through this great potential, President Jokowi reminded that Indonesia must take serious steps to develop coconut commodities in order to provide more benefits to the country.

According to Jokowi, this serious step can be taken through two aspects, namely increasing the production of coconut commodities and downstreaming so that they have added value.

"I invite the international coconut community to work together in order to advance a sustainable coconut industry," said President Jokowi.
