Interlock SIG Bata Becomes A Solution To Build A Faster House, Resists Earthquake And Environmentally Friendly
JAKARTA - The government through the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) continues to encourage the provision of safe, comfortable, and affordable housing and settlements. As a form of support for the Government, PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG) through its subsidiary PT Semen Padang presents innovations for interlocked brick products, for solutions for faster, economical, aesthetic, and environmentally friendly housing development.
Bata interlock is an applied research product with a brick work mechanism that locks each other between beams such as the lego system. The use of interlock bricks provides many benefits compared to conventional materials in the construction of houses, because it is more efficient in the use of materials and easier in application.
The duration of the construction of houses using interlocked bricks is also faster than ordinary bricks because it does not require a brick immersion process, the provision of casting or sorting printed boxes, application of adhesive or specion in each brick layer, as well as addition of plaster and acian.
Bata interlock provides a modern appearance and is able to condition the air in the room to be cooler because it is able to release isolated hot in the room. The interlock Bata has also been declared earthquake friendly for areas with a high level of seismicity (KDS D) based on the 2D wall cyclic Test at the Center for Facilities and Buildings of the Director General of Settlement and Housing Engineering Development.
SIG's Director of Business and Marketing, Subhan said, interlock bricks are a solution to produce sturdy and aesthetic buildings as desired, in a faster way, more economical and environmentally friendly costs. The interlock Bata is very suitable for use in various housing development projects, including supporting efforts to accelerate the fulfillment of housing backlogs.
"The presence of this interlock brick product further enriches the product portfolio and solutions of environmentally friendly GIS building materials because they are produced using green cement with lower carbon emissions, and have met the quality standards of SNI 03-0349-1989 concerning Bata Beton Pair Walls," Subhan said in a written statement. Friday 19 July.
Interlock brick development began in 2019 through the collaboration of the Non Semen Incubation Business Unit of PT Semen Padang with the Department of Research & Development SIG, and continued with the business incubation process since 2023 by the Non Semen Incubation Business Unit of PT Semen Padang. This innovative product has been used in more than 100 housing units in a number of projects in West Sumatra and Jambi, including Sulthan Residence Housing in West Pasaman Regency, Griya Madani Housing in Padang City, Farensa Housing in Padang City, CSR program assistance house PT Semen Padang in Padang City, MBR assistance house in 50 Kota Regency and home renovation program in Jambi City.
This innovation can support the acceleration of reducing the number of home ownership backlogs in Indonesia, which according to the National Socio-Economic Survey Data (Susenas) in 2023 shows a figure of 9.9 million units, with 26.9 million households not having access to decent housing.

In overcoming the housing backlog, the Ministry of PUPR has established the concept of balanced housing development in the capital city of Nusantara (IKN). Balanced housing is a policy that requires developers, as legal entities that carry out housing development, to develop housing with a balanced composition between luxury, medium and simple homes.
The implementation of balanced housing is one of the nine main amendments to Law Number 3 of 2022 concerning the State Capital. The IKN Authority (OIKN) is obliged to provide housing in IKN which allows the total population of IKN to continue to increase every year. In the revision of the IKN Law, an article that regulates the implementation of housing specifically is that housing developers throughout Indonesia can fulfill the balanced occupancy rules by providing it at IKN in a certain period and the form determined by OIKN by OIKN by taking into account the Detailed Spatial Planning of IKN.
Furthermore, Subhan said, the interlock brick from GIS meets the criteria for house construction in IKN which carries the concept of sustainable and smart city because it is made using green cement products with faster working times so that construction costs become more efficient, and supported by a modern appearance.
"SIG is ready to collaborate with various parties to make housing and residential development projects a success, both in IKN and other regions. As a state-owned company, SIG is committed to continuing to contribute and be part of sustainable development in Indonesia," said Subhan.
