Israeli Settlement In Palestine Declared Illegal, UN Court Can What?

JAKARTA - The United Nations' highest court says Israeli settlements in Palestinian occupied territories are illegal under international law, in an advisory opinion issued on Friday, July 19.

The findings of judges at the International Court (ICJ), known as the World Court, are non-binding but have international legal weights.

The Israeli settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, and the regimes associated with them, have been established and maintained in violation of international law, said President Nawaf Salam, reading out the findings of a panel consisting of 15 judges.

The UN Assembly asked the court to assess the legal consequences of Israel's residential, residential, and prolonged annexation' of Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem, and the policies of the Israeli government concerned.

There have been no reports of a follow-up to the UN's highest court' decision on Israel.

Israel announced last month it would legalize five outposts in the West Bank, build three new settlements, and confiscate most of the land where Palestinians seek to establish an independent country.
