Will Report Jokowi, Minister Of Industry-Minister Of Trade Agrees On Transfer Of Imported Goods Entrances

Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita has met with the Minister of Trade (Mendag) Zulkifli Hasan to discuss the formation of a task force or task force to eradicate illegal imported goods entering Indonesia.

Minister of Industry Agus said that during the meeting, he and Trade Minister Zulhas agreed to propose to President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) regarding the transfer of entrances or entry points.

Agus hopes that in the future the entrance to these items will be in Sorong, West Papua or Belitung, Bangka Belitung, before entering Java Island.

"What we have agreed on together with the technical team will discuss and propose to the president regarding the transfer of entry points for goods from the seven commodities that have been determined," Agus said when met at his office, Friday, July 19.

"And we plan to make another suggestion, hopefully there will be policies for these items when entering Indonesia, the entrance or entry points before going to Java are in Sorong or Belitung," he added.

According to him, this will provide a positive value because of the formation of a new economic activity center whose development starts from ports and to more advanced cities.

"Of course there will be questions about whether the infrastructure is ready, the humans are ready. So, there should be no reason not to be ready. Maybe later those who will answer the infrastructure readiness and humans will be under customs duties," he said.

He views that one of the effects is being able to grow the national shipping industry.

"The two agreements that we reached earlier. I think that for the beginning was a good and positive thing. We are a clear government where he is a ministry that fosters an industry, that is one vision in protecting the domestic industry," he added.

Previously, Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan received the arrival of Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita at the Ministry of Trade office, Jakarta, today, Friday, July 19.

Agus' arrival to the Ministry of Trade also coincided with the hectic issue surrounding the Regulation of the Minister of Trade or the Minister of Trade Regulation Number 8 of 2024 concerning Import Policy and Regulation.

Agus admitted that he had held a limited meeting with the Minister of Trade Zulhas.

The meeting discussed the government's efforts to support the manufacturing industry in Indonesia.

"There are so many things that have been discussed between the two of us. Alhamdulillah, as part of the government, we see the importance of supporting the manufacturing industry in Indonesia as the support and economic strength of the nation," said Minister of Industry Agus.

"The two of us had a fairly deep discussion with a warm atmosphere," he concluded.
