JAKARTA - The TNI troops have shot three members of the Free Papua Organization (OPM) who are part of the Teranus Enumbi group.
Kapendam XVII Cenderawasih Lt. Col. Inf Chandra Kurniawan said, although he managed to paralyze three OPM members, the TNI failed to arrest the group leader, Teranus Enumbi, because he managed to escape in the middle of a shootout.
Then, who is Teranus Enumbi?
Terinus Enumbi is one of the figures on the Police Wanted List (DPO) related to the crime of assaulting security forces in 2018.
Even for this year alone, Terinus Enumbi has led the OPM group to commit several criminal acts, including shooting a motorcycle taxi driver named Husen (39) on June 19.
He also attacked a civilian named Prasetyo (33) on May 31, attacking a motorcycle taxi named Jainul (44) on May 30 and lastly attacking two security forces named Sertu Ismunandar and Serka Salim with sharp weapons on March 19.
The incident of TNI troops from the Battalion RK 753/AVR Task Force managed to shoot dead the three OPM members in the Karubate village area, Muara District, Puncak Jaya Regency, Papua, Tuesday, July 16.
The TNI ensures that it will tighten security around the location to anticipate a counterattack from the OPM group.
"TNI-Polri officers will continue to strive to maintain regional stability by continuing to protect and serve the community. At the same time, law enforcement is still enforced, especially from disturbances to OPM," said Chandra, quoted from ANTARA.
The shootout incident began when his party received a report regarding the entry of the OPM group to the village of Karubate. Based on reports from Yonif RK 753/AVR, they immediately chased the OPM members.
The OPM members were apparently in a shop owned by residents in the village.
"When he was about to be arrested, this OPM gang fought back by firing a shot trying to shoot TNI officers, so TNI soldiers paralyzed and shot the gang," said Chandra.
