JAKARTA - The government through the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) is trying to connect the Trans Java Toll Road from Merak to Banyuwangi.

Currently, the Probolinggo-Banyuwangi or Probowangi Toll Road is being built in stages starting from Gending to Besuki.

Quoted from the upload of the official Instagram account of the Toll Road Regulatory Agency (BPJT) @pupr_bpjt on Wednesday, July 17, the construction of the Probowangi Toll Road phase 1 Gending-Besuki is divided into three sections.

Among them, Section 1 Gending-Kraksaan is 12.88 kilometers (km) long with construction progress of 60.08 percent, Section 2 Krakatan-Paiton is 11.20 km long with progress of 40.40 percent and Section 3 Paiton-Besuki along 25.6 km with construction progress reaching 31.38 percent.

"For stage 1, which consists of 3 sections, from Gending to Besuki, it is targeted that the construction will be completed in December 2024," wrote BPJT.

Meanwhile, for stage 2 from Besuki to Banyuwangi along 125.72 km, the construction is targeted to be completed after 2024.

In stage 2, it consists of four sections including Section 4 Besuki-Situbondo along 42.30 km, Section 5 Situbondo-Asembagus 16.76 km, Section 6 Asembagus-Bajulmati 37.45 km and Section 7 Bajulmati-Ketapang 29.21 km.

The existence of the Probowangi Toll Road phase 1 will cut Probolinggo's travel time to Besuki, which was previously around 1 hour and 15 minutes of travel to 30 minutes of travel with an average travel time of 80-100 km/hour.
