Becoming A Shabu Courier From His Acquaintance In Jakut, A Man In Ambon Sued 7.6 Years In Prison

JAKARTA - The Public Prosecutor (JPU) of the Maluku High Prosecutor's Office (Kejati) demanded 7.6 years in prison for Elki alias El, a defendant in a drug courier in Ambon.

"Asking the panel of judges who examined and tried this case to declare the defendant guilty of violating Article 114 paragraph (1) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics," said Public Prosecutor Ahmad Latupono in a trial led by Chief Justice Martha Maitimu accompanied by two member judges at the Ambon District Court (PN), Monday, July 15, confiscated by Antara.

The KPU also asked the panel of judges to punish the defendant by paying a fine of Rp. 1 billion, subsidiary to six months in prison.

In addition, a number of evidences, including eight packages of methamphetamine weighing 3.96 grams, were confiscated to be destroyed and determined that the defendant remained in detention.

The aggravating thing is that the defendant is charged with imprisonment and fines for not supporting the government's program in eradicating drug trafficking and abuse.

Meanwhile, the mitigating factor is that the defendant is polite and has never been convicted.

According to the prosecutor, the defendant was arrested by members of the Maluku Police Narcotics Directorate on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at around 14.00 WIT next to the Hatukau Library building in the Galunggung area, Batu Merah Village, Sirimau District, Ambon City.

In the trial with the agenda of examining the defendant, the person concerned claimed to be a drug courier after meeting someone named Aldo in the Taman Pisang area, North Jakarta (Jakut).

The defendant was offered a job by Aldo to work as a drug courier belonging to another person named Haji Tora who lives in Ambon City.

So that in early December 2024, the defendant agreed to Aldo's offer and then returned from Jakarta to Ambon using an airplane which was borne by Haji Tora.

The defendant was also provided a special boarding house by Haji Tora behind the Maluku KPU Office. In that room, methamphetamine is ready for distribution and must deliver it to potential buyers.

The panel of judges postponed the trial until next week with the agenda of hearing the defendant's defense through his legal adviser.
