GIS And PLN Strengthen Synergy To Accelerate Energy Transition Towards Green Industry

JAKARTA - PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG) and PT PLN (Persero) continue to strengthen synergies in accelerating energy transitions to the green industry through low-carbon business and operational processes. This SOE synergy is an opportunity that is in line with the sustainability roadmap (sustainability roadmap) of each company in the context of realizing Sustainable Development Goals in Indonesia and supporting the Government to achieve the net zero emission target by 2050.

SIG Operations Director, Reni Wulandari when representing GIS received an award as a large-scale energy user in the industrial sector at the Enterprise Customer Gathering event organized by PLN in Jakarta, on Thursday 11 July, said SIG and PLN had a vision to encourage the creation of a green industry through the use of EBT-based electricity. This initiative is expected to reduce environmental risks from industrial models that are extractive or dependent on natural resources and accelerate the achievement of reducing carbon emissions.

"As an energy user, the relationship between SIG and PLN is more than just consumers and service providers, but also partners in sustainability. SIG and PLN have signed a memorandum of understanding in presenting clean energy to meet needs in the GIS operating area in September 2023," said Reni Wulandari, in a written statement, quoted Monday, July 15.

Reni Wulandari added that SIG is a large-scale electric user with an electricity level of around 2.9 terawatt hour (TWh) per year or IDR 2.9 trillion/year. On the other hand, SIG owns land in the form of roofs of buildings, land, and ponds, which have the potential to be used for the implementation of solar panels of up to 572 MegaWatt peak (MWp).

"Cooperation with PLN in the development of solar panels, is expected to increase the portion of EBT usage and support the achievement of the target of reducing the intensity of CO2 coverage 2 emissions by 23.9 percent from the 2019 baseline as stated in the Sustainability Roadmap 2030 SIG," said Reni Wulandari.

PLN President Director, Darmawan Prasodjo revealed, the Enterprise Customer Gathering is a form of PLN's award for cooperation with industrial customers that has been established so far.

According to him, the contribution of customers is very large in maintaining stability and encouraging the country's economic growth. "This event is a form of our appreciation for the support of customers so far. We hope that the closeness between PLN and enterprise customers can be further improved to encourage sustainable economic growth," said Dharmawan Prasodjo.

Darmawan also explained that in order to support low-carbon energy, PLN is also developing a beyond kWh business where PLN not only provides electricity, but also internet services, fiber optics, and green services to support low-carbon industries.
