Joe Aditya Wijaya Kurniawan Is Only Targeted To Break The National Record At The 2024 Paris Olympics
Jakarta-The coach of the Indonesian swimming national team, Albert Chridtiadi Susanto, emphasized that the mainstay swimmer Joe Aditya Wijaya Kurniawan was fitted with a minimum target of breaking the national record at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
"Joe has indeed been prepared for the Olympics. Later at the Paris Olympics our target is to break the national record," said Albert in Jakarta, Saturday, July 13, about the minimal target.
Currently, the men's 100-meter swimming national record (rekornas) is held by Joe with a record time of 52.75 seconds which he created in the 5th Indonesia Open Aquatic Championship (IOAC) 2023 in December 2023. This record is faster than the previous record holder, Juliy Fauzi Sidiq, who recorded 52.77 seconds at the championship in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in 2016.
At the Paris Olympics, Joe is targeted to record a time faster than his own record of 52.75 seconds.
Albert revealed that Joe had been prepared to compete in the Olympics since January 2024 by undergoing a training camp in the United States.
"At the training camp in America, (Joe) showed a good time improvement and was further supported by training and games made him better prepared for the Olympics," explained Albert.
Through early preparations, Albert stated that Joe's training was also more optimal than the female swimmer Azzahra Permatahani, which was previously projected for the 2024 PON before being announced to qualify for the Paris Olympics by the World Aquatics.
Albert is trying to optimize a very limited time to prepare Azzahra to record the best time in Paris, especially as swimming will be contested on the second day of the Olympics.
Joe and Azzahra are Indonesian swimmers who performed at the 2024 Paris Olympics through the universality place quota, so that the number of Indonesian athletes who qualified for this Olympics became 29 athletes.
All athletes, coaches and officials who are part of the Indonesian contingent have been confirmed by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Dito Ariotedjo, and then officially released by President Joko Widodo in Jakarta on Wednesday, July 10.
