Progress Reaches 95.5 Percent, Amman Mineral Smelter Confirmed to Start Production in Quarter IV-2024

PT Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara (AMNT) is completing the commissioning process for copper smelters in West Sumbawa Regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).

As of May 31, 2024, the progress of the project, which is also a national strategic project, has reached 95.5 percent and is expected to start production of copper cathodes in the fourth quarter of 2024.

This smelter is designed to have an installed input capacity of 900,000 tons of concentrate per year (ktpa). In addition, this smelter will produce the final product in the form of 222,000 tons of copper cathode per year (tpa), as well as sulfate acid, gold bullion, silver bullion, and selenium.

Currently, physical and mechanical complement construction has been completed, and the smelter progress leaves 5 percent remaining, which is the commissioning stage in progress. The commissioning process, which began in early June 2024, is scheduled to last for five months. During this period, various stages of equipment and infrastructure testing will be carried out to ensure all systems function optimally before starting commercial production.

The AMMAN smelter project is currently in the process of commissioning, which is planned to last for five months from early June. One of the stages in the commissioning process is the entry of a copper concentrate as a smelter feed. Meanwhile, the production of the first copper cathode from the smelter is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2024," explained AMNT President Director Rachmat Makkasau to the media, on Saturday, July 13.

In 2023, AMNT's contribution to the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) of West Sumbawa Regency reached 82 percent, confirming the importance of the company's role in the regional economy.

In working on the construction of this smelter, AMNT collaborates with international contractors, including China Non-ferrous Metal Industry's Foreign Engineering and Construction Co., Ltd (NFC) and PT Metal Industry Development (PT PIL), to ensure this smelter project meets global standards in the right time.

This project is expected to be one of the fastest double-flash melting facilities built outside China.

Along with the smelter development effort, AMNT also achieved important achievements in the field of security. This company recently obtained a National Vital Object Security Management System (SMP Obvitnas) certification from the National Police Headquarters, with the Gold category and compliance value reaching 90.44 percent.

This certification was given based on Presidential Decree No. 63 of 2004 and Regulation of the Indonesian National Police No. 7 of 2019, which regulates the security of national vital objects.

This certification is the result of a thorough audit process, covering five main aspects of security elements, namely commitment and policy, security patterns, security configurations, security implementation capabilities, as well as monitoring and evaluation. Certificates were handed over by the Head of the National Police's Security Maintenance Agency (Kabaharkam), Komjen Pol Mohammad Fadil Imran, and Dirpamobvit Korsabhara Baharkam Polri, Brigadier General Suhendri, to Rachmat Makkasau, at the Bidakara Hotel's Bidakara Assessment Center, Jakarta, on July 8, 2024.

Rachmat emphasized that this certification confirms AMNT's commitment to implementing the best practices in security management.

"This success is also a strategic step in eliminating potential threats and disturbances, as well as improving operational security systematically," said Rachmat.

In addition, AMNT has signed a Memorandum of Understanding & Guidelines for the Technical Working of Obvitnas Security Services with the NTB Police to strengthen security and supervision during the smelter construction process. This step is in line with the company's efforts to strengthen the security management system that was recently certified.
