Vice President Asks For Wrong Arrest Cases Like Setiawan Is Not Repeated

JAKARTA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin asked for a wrongful arrest incident as experienced in the case of Pegi Setiawan not to happen again in the future.

"I think we hope that in the future it will not happen again. So if we arrest it, it is really firm (strong) and the evidence is sufficient," said the Vice President in response to the release of Pegi Setiawan after the pretrial lawsuit granted by the Bandung District Court (PN) Judge was reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, July 9.

The vice president said that to his knowledge, the National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, had conveyed that the Pegi case would continue.

The Vice President admitted that he did not know the details, what continuation would be done.

"I'm just listening to what the National Police Chief said that it will continue. I don't know what the continuation will be like. This means that the process will continue, I don't know what it will be like," said the Vice President.

However, he agreed, if the case has not been completed, it is necessary to continue the search for other suspects.

"I agree if it is not finished yet, that there are three people who have DPO, if it is true that there is, just continue. If it turns out that the Pegi is not the person being sought, I think this will be continued," he explained.

As for the wrong arrest of Pegi Setiawan which led to his pretrial release, the Vice President saw this as possible due to lack of accuracy.

"(Maybe) it means a lack of research from the Regional Police when arresting Pegi, so that it can be broken or canceled through pretrial," he said.
