Estimates Joe Biden Will Stay In The US Presidential Election, Donald Trump: He Doesn't Want To Stop
JAKARTA - Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump predicts that incumbent Joe Biden will continue to participate in the United States presidential election in November, when there is growing call for him to step down for a younger candidate.
Trump, 78, said on Monday Biden (81) would refuse to leave the campaign because of his ego, noting the former vice president had locked down Democrat nominations, as all convention delegates he won during the Democrats' preliminary elections earlier this year.
President Biden has repeatedly said ai will continue to participate in the US Presidential Election, after his performance was deemed not optimal in the debate against Trump on 27 June.
"Interestingly, he has a lot of power, because he has a delegation. You know, when you have a delegation, unless he says, 'I'm going out,' they can't do anything to get him out other than the 25th amendment," Trump said in a telephone interview with Sean Hannity. broadcast on Fox News, reported Reuters July 9.
The 25th amendment to the US constitution allows vice presidents and cabinet members to state that the president is unable to carry out his power and duties, transferring the position to the vice president as acting president. There is no indication that Vice President Kamala Harris or high-ranking Democrats have submitted the option.
"He has an ego, and he doesn't want to quit. He doesn't want to do that. For me, that's what he wants," Trump said of Biden.
However, Trump's interview contradicts a relaxed statement recorded in a recent video, when Trump mistakenly told his supporters on one of his golf courses he had removed Biden from competition.
"He stepped down from competition. I got rid of him," Trump said in a video published by the Daily Beast on Wednesday.
