Kupat Rampung Toll Road Project, Accelerate Access To Lake Toba Tourism Areas

JAKARTA - A subsidiary of PT Hutama Karya (Persero), PT Hutama Marga Waskita (Hamawas) has just completed two sections on the Kuala Tanjung-Tebing Tinggi-Parapat (Kutepat) Toll Road.

The two sections in question are Section 2 of the Kutepat Indrapura-Kuala Tanjung (Section 2) toll road with a length of 18.05 kilometers (km) and Kupat Toll Road Section 3 and part of Section 4 of the Serbelawan-Sinaksak High Cliff with a length of 10.15 km.

President Director Hamawas Dindin Solakhuddin said the progress of the two Kupat Toll Roads had been 100 percent completed since June 2024.

With the completion of Hamawas' two new sections, the toll road operations can be prepared immediately.

"Immediately the operation of these two Kutepat sections will provide benefits for the people of North Sumatra who will be connected," said Dindin in a written statement, Tuesday, July 9.

Dindin said that the potential for tourism and trade in areas that were previously difficult to reach can now be explored more optimally which provides great benefits for the welfare of the community with the presence of the toll road.

He added that the presence of the two toll roads can cut the travel time of motorists and facilitate accessibility of goods. So as to increase logistics efficiency.

Meanwhile, North Sumatra Economic Observer Gunawan Benjamin said the presence of toll roads connecting various sections of the Trans Sumatra Toll Road (JTTS), especially Kutepat, was a positive thing that the local government had to support.

Because it can increase acceleration and reduce logistics costs. So that the economy in various regions can grow well.

"Similarly, Lake Toba tourism is expected to increase the number of visits, both from local and foreign tourists. Thus, it has a good impact on increasing foreign exchange for buffer districts," he concluded.
